Part of the U.S. response to the Yemen-based rebel group targeting commercial vessels.
The Department of the Treasury sanctioned four key officials of the Houthi group based in Yemen for their continued attacks on commercial ships passing through the Red Sea. The Iranian-backed rebel forces have been launching missile strikes against international shipping vessels since October 2023, and these sanctions are the latest action taken by the United States to dissuade their continued disruption to global commerce.
“The Houthis’ persistent terrorist attacks on merchant vessels and their civilian crews lawfully transitting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden threaten to disrupt international supply chains and the freedom of navigation, which is critical to global security, stability, and prosperity,” said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson. “Today’s joint action with the United Kingdom demonstrates our collective action to leverage all authorities to stop these attacks.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Under Secretary Nelson to be led by the Lord as he heads the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
- For Secretary Yellen to be discerning as she oversees the Treasury Department.
- For Cabinet officials and federal agency leaders as they take action to safeguard the global economy.
